This is a form of folk art from my region.
It is mainly for decoration and to attract and entertain visitors.
Some people believe hex signs can be imbued with magical properties.
The colors and shapes usually represent concepts, like hearts for love.
In 2025, I began painting hex signs inspired by Queer pride colors and Queer symbolism.
I have since begun to branch out into other symbolism.

My family is part "Pennsylvania Dutch" and this has been a way to reflect on my values and experiences;
however, anyone can paint a hex sign!
I take recycled misprinted hex signs, paint a new base coat on them, paint with acrylic, then seal with a glossy protective varnish.
I am now experimenting with 1) Hex signs on Paper and 2) painting with 1-shot, which may allow for bigger signs.
